In 1989, he started his career by founding the animation studio named ‘”NeoGeo’ in the Netherlands which also went unto being one of the largest 3D animation studios, where he developed software like Traces for Amiga. And by 1995, Roosendaal had developed an in-house software tool for 3D animation named ‘Blender’ which became very successful.

Ton even moved the business to Amsterdam by 2002, however, the business didn’t grow after that and all operations of Blender were shut down at the beginning of 2002. But the demand from the users and customers made Roosendaal build up a non-profit Blender Foundation by the end of the year.

Ton Roosendaal became the chairman of the Blender Foundation on 13 October 2002. A few of the best Blender artists then became his collaborators to make a short animation movie and thereby proving that one can use blender to build top-quality animation. Overall, it helped in making Blenders better. The team went onto winning the Ub Iwerks Award at the 46th Annual Annie Awards in 2019 for their excellence in professional quality animation.

The foundation then started working on open-content projects, animating several movies under the ‘Blender Institute’, which is the studio of the Blender Foundation established by Roosendaal in 2007.
