Sue Aikens, originally Susan Aikens, is one of the original cast members of Nat Geo’s hit survival Docu-series “Life Below Zero” who is expected to make her return for the show’s fourteenth season. The popular reality star encourages and expects more people to explore the less explored parts of the world.

Bio, Early life, Family & Education

Sue was born in a small village of Elk Grove and Wheeling Township named Mount Prospect One located in Cook County, Illinois on 1st July 1963. She is 57 years old.

Speaking about her family history, her grandparents were originally from Scotland thus, she spent most of her childhood traveling with her parents. Her mother left her father and shifted to a rural area of Alaska, 80 km north of Fairbanks when she was 12 years old. 

She was eventually compelled to brave the Alaskan wilderness from an early age. She bravely swapped her toys with guns and bats to save herself in the wilderness after her mother abandoned her. As a matter of fact, she later grew up to be an adventure enthusiast and competed against the extreme living conditions of the state.

Having led a nomadic lifestyle her entire life, Sue’s academic educational qualifications are not known.

In addition, Sue lived briefly in Oregon before she returned to Alaska and has been living there for three decades with occasional ventures to different locations. Her Kavik River Camp is 197 miles north of the Arctic Circle and around 310 miles from Fairbanks. She has been living there for nearly one and a half decades.

Sue Aikens is the free soul of Alaska and is the original cast member of the survival series since 2013. The show educates the viewers about the adventurous life full of challenges of the Northern Alaskan. 

Sue has successfully managed to provide entertainment as well as informative content through her contemporary lifestyle to the viewers. By following the ups and downs in the everyday lives of people living on the wild territory of Alaska, the show has created many informative, exciting, and entertaining series content. The show further showcases the cope-up measures during 50 degrees below temperature and wild animals. 

She also runs Kavik River Camp where she provides accommodation to people who want to experience Alaskan life.

She was also featured in “ Sarah Palin’s Alaska”, a reality TV series in 2010, and “ Flying Wild Alaska”, a documentary series in 2011.

Susan however sued the network in February 2017 for an incident that sustained her serious injuries that took place during the filming of the fifth season in 2015. She had accused a producer, Aaron Mellman, of causing her mental distress and responsibility of endangering her life. Currently, she is reported to be returning for the show’s fourteenth season.

Aikens was also married to British barber Eddie James Aikens on 13th June 1987. The couple moved to Portland, Oregon where they became parents to a girl and a boy. However, after 17 years of marriage, the couple got divorced after which Sue relocated to Alaska. Despite their legal separation, the couple remained friends until Eddie departed from the world in 2009. 

At present, her two children reside in different parts of America. Sue often meets her children during holidays or special occasions like her son’s wedding that took place in Chicago in October 2016. Furthermore, she is a proud grandmother of her adorable granddaughter who was born in January 2020 to her oldest daughter.

Since 2019, Sue Aikens is reportedly in a relationship with a man in his fifties, apparently whose identity is kept under wraps. However, she often shares a couple of photos featuring her alleged boyfriend in her Instagram account.
