Growing up, the gold medalist got her passion from her parents. Her parents used to take her and her sister skiing on different trails all over Minnesota.

Because of this, Diggins started learning skiing at a very young age. By the time she was three, she was already part of the Minnesota Youth Ski League.

She started competing with other kids when she was eleven, and though her competitor has changed, her love for skiing hasn’t.

Poplawski was once an ice hockey player from Canada who has cut his ties from the ice. Currently, he works at Credit Suisse in its securitized products department. 

Education and High School

Diggins attended the Stillwater Area High school to complete her high school.

After high school, she got a scholarship to Northern Michigan University. However, she passed the scholarship to start her professional career.

Once her professional career got set, she joined Westminster college in Michigan to continue her studies.

Career and Gold Medal

 The gold medalist started skiing at the early age of three, and by the time she was eleven, she was already competing with other kids.

However, her professional journey in the sport started in high school. She competed for her school’s team and was a top-ranked female cross country skier.

While still in high school, she also became the winner of the US Junior Sprint in 2009 and made it to the US world junior cross country ski team.

After high school, though colleges offered her scholarships, she rejected them to go pro. 

Her decision worked in her favor as soon she made it to the US ski team and took part in the World championship.

Though she didn’t win any medal in the championship, it was a great experience. With this acquired experience, she claimed the 2013 World Championship by winning gold in team sprint for the first time with fellow skier Kikkan Randall.

Diggins gained a lot of confidence from the win and competed in the 15km skiathlon at the 2014 Winter Olympics. She came in eighth place in the event.

The 2014 Winter Olympics was just the start of her glorious ambition as she took part in the Olympics twice again. She competed in the 2018 and 2024 Winter Olympics.

In the 2018 Olympics, Diggins made history along with Randall as the first American cross country skier who won gold in the female team sprint.

The 2018 gold-medalist continued adding success to her name even in this year’s Winter Olympics. She won a silver and a bronze in the 30km mass start and sprint events.

Diggins has a glorious eleven seasons with many titles and records, including being the first American woman to win the distance and overall world cup titles.

Besides being one of the most celebrated cross country skiers, she is also the ambassador of Fast and Female, an NGO which empowers girls between the age of 8 to 18 in sports.
