Eleanor Bergstein was born on April 17, 1938, in  Brooklyn, New York, USA to a Jewish family. 85 years old.

She grew up in Brooklyn along with her older sister, Frances Bergstein, and her parents; Joseph Bergstein (Father) who was a doctor, and Sarah Berstein (Mother) who was a housewife.

The Bergstein family was considered very rich as the family used to spend their summer in the Catskill Mountains among the luxury resorts, Grossinger’s Catskill Resort Hotel. They often would go on such trips as her father was a very busy man and would have less time to append with the rest of the family. Bergstein used to dance all summer while her parents played golf.

Eleanor completed her basic education in a local high school and was famous for being a teenage Mambo queen as she would take part in local competitions. Eleanor then graduated in 1958 from the University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor’s degree in Literature.

Eleanor Bergstein started her career as a dance instructor at Arthur Murray Dance Studios and officially started working as a novelist and writer in 1966 after her marriage. Her work as a novelist includes some famous novels such as  Advancing Paul Newman and Ex-Lover: A Novel.

Eleanor then pursued her interest in the screenplay and has written various screenplays for different films and movies. Some of her famous screenplays include; Dirty Dancing: The Musical, Let It Be Me, Dirty Dancing, and It’s My Turn. Among all the screenplays, her writing skill in Dirty Dancing gave her fame in the industry.

She also ventured into her career as a producer by co-producing the movie, Dirty Dancing in 1987 which became a huge success. Upon the success of Dirty Dancing, she created a stage version in 2004 which was opened in Australia.
